Four-for-Four: Shane Hebert Wins STSS Cajun Region Event at Ark-La-Tex Speedway

VIVIAN, LA – Four-for-four.

Shane Hebert became the fourth Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Cajun Region’ Modified victor in as many events Saturday night at Ark-La-Tex Speedway.

Hebert, making his first 2021 start with the series in a Hightower family backed No. 9, earned $1,000 for his efforts in the 20-lap feature at Gene Boyter’s quarter-mile, D-shaped facility.

Hebert took part in the ‘Cajun Swing’ STSS events in Louisiana last November subbing for Hightower.

With Hightower now sidelined due to injuries sustained at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway in May, Hebert was called upon to wheel the renumbered ‘9’ car in the Cajun Region.

The Lafayette, La., driver made his first start of the season count, joining Cody Robbins, Tommy Rascoe and Caleb Dillard as winners on the series in ’21.

Hebert led the event from start-to-finish after picking the pole in the pre-feature redraw.

Point leader Caleb Dillard of Many, La., drove from fifth to finish second in the Tim Bates Painting No. 18. Tommy Rascoe of Converse, La., Red Oak, Texas native Jon White in his first start of the season and Greg Dillard of Robeline, La., completed the top five.

Heat winners were Dillard and Hebert for the season-high 16 cars in attendance.

The next event for the STSS Cajun Region is Saturday, July 17 at Jerry Hobson’s Chatham Speedway in Chatham, La., Round No. 5 of the Day Motor Sports point series.

Dillard Does It: Caleb Dillard Third STSS Cajun Region Winner Saturday at Chatham

CHATHAM, LA – Three-for-three.

On Saturday night at Chatham Speedway, Caleb Dillard became the third different winner in as many Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Cajun Region Modified events, picking up his first of the season.

Dillard earned $1,075 ($1,000 from the posted purse, $75 from APE Racing Engines) for his efforts in the 20-lap main at Jerry Hobson’s facility, taking the Sunoco checkered flag in Race No. 3 of the Day Motor Sports (Tyler, Texas) point series.

Dillard, of Robeline, La., had a pair of top-three finishes entering Saturday’s event but was looking for his first victory in his Tim Bates-fielded No. 18, a former Matt Sheppard-driven Bicknell mount.

This time, he got it done.

Dillard started third and worked beneath early leader David Forbis on the third tour of the wide and racy Chatham oval. Dillard would never turn over the lead once out front.

The battle for second, however, thrilled the crowd.

Forbis and Cody Robbins – the winner at Chatham in the April series opener – fought tooth-and-nail for the position side-by-side over the race’s second half.

Robbins took second on lap 17 but Forbis crossed to the inside and reclaimed the position.

Forbis, of Bossier City, La., narrowly bested Mansfield, La.’s Robbins to the line for second, with Robbins in third with Greg Dillard (Many, La.) and Tommy Rascoe (Converse, La.) completing the front five.

Heat winners were Greg Dillard and Rascoe.

Next up for the series is the first visit of 2021 to Sabine Motor Speedway in Many, La., on Friday, June 11. The month of June concludes at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., Saturday, June 26.

Rain Stops Saturday 171 Speedway STSS Cajun Region Appearance

LEESVILLE, PA – Mother Nature wins this one.

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Cajun Region’ event at 171 Speedway in Leesville, La., scheduled for Saturday, May 1 has fallen to rain. After rainfall on Friday and afternoon precipitation was predicted for Saturday night, speedway management opted to pull the plug on the first appearance by the STSS Cajun Region Modified contingent at the Leesville track.

Speedway management will work to secure a make-up date in the coming days.

Saturday’s event was scheduled to be the third round of the Day Motor Sports Cajun Region point series. Tommy Rascoe, the winner at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, La., leads the championship chase.

In two events run thus far there have been a pair of different winners: Cody Robbins in the opener at Chatham Speedway and Rascoe at Thunder Valley.

The next scheduled event for the Cajun Region is a return to Jerry Hobson’s Chatham Speedway in Chatham, La., on Saturday, May 29.

Retribution for Rascoe at Thunder Valley, Wins STSS Cajun Region Race No. 2

GLENMORA, LA – After watching a victory slip away in the series opener at Chatham Speedway, Tommy Rascoe gained retribution Saturday night at Thunder Valley Speedway.

Rascoe led through the final lap in the inaugural Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Cajun Region Modified event on April 3 only to watch Cody Robbins drive by for the win.

In event No. 2 of the Day Motor Sports point series, the Converse, La., native picked up the $1,075 victory, leading the 20-lap main from wire-to-wire at the Glenmora, La., bullring.

Rascoe makes the second different winner in as many STSS Cajun Region events.

Rascoe launched off the pole of the main event, but the victory was far from easy.

Prior to the halfway mark, Caleb Dillard ducked to the inside of his father – Greg – to put the Tim Bates-owned No. 18 into second.

Rascoe found a home in the outside lane of the Derek Perkins-promoted oval, while Dillard utilized the low groove. For the entire second half of the event, the pair raced wheel-to-wheel with Greg Dillard lurking in third.

Dillard had pulled even with Rascoe on the 18th lap as the duo encountered slower traffic.

Dillard momentarily had to lift and Rascoe surged back ahead to take the victory, collecting $1,000 from the posted purse plus a $75 bonus for displaying the APE Engines decal on his car.

Many, La.’s Caleb Dillard placed second with Greg Dillard of Robeline, La., third. Keith Badiali of Benton, La., and Thomas Holt of Atlanta, Texas. Holt was the Shed Road Towing and Recovery Hard Charger, receiving an additional $50.

The 20-lap feature was slowed only once by a caution flag.

Heat winners were Cody Robbins (who was slowed by a flat tire in the feature) and Rascoe.

Next up for the series is Event No. 3 on Saturday, May 1 at 171 Speedway in Leesville, La., Race No. 3 of the Day Motor Sports point series. Like ‘Leesville 171 Speedway’ on Facebook or visit the official website at www.171speedway.com. 171 Speedway is located at 12240 Lake Charles Highway Leesville, LA 71446.
