Caleb Dillard Stays Hot, Wins STSS Cajun Event at Thunder Valley Speedway

GLENMORA, LA – Caleb Dillard is staying hot during the summer stretch.

On Saturday night at Thunder Valley Speedway, Dillard won his second consecutive Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Modified ‘Cajun Region’ event, extending his lead in the Day Motor Sports (Tyler, Texas) championship chase.

Dillard received $1,075 for his efforts in the sixth round of the inaugural season.

For the second consecutive event, the Robeline, La., resident fought off Shane Hebert for the Sunoco checkered flag.

Hebert, who started sixth in the Brandon Hightower-owned No. 9, surged forward to the runner-up position behind Dillard, who took the green off the outside of the front row.

Hebert pressured Dillard through the race’s second half, including a restart with five laps to go.

Dillard picked up his third victory of the season by two car-lengths.

Hebert, of Lafayette, La., was the runner-up again, followed by Tommy Rascoe of Converse, La., Jimmy McCommas of Mesquite, Texas and Greg Dillard of Many, La.

Heat winners for the 16 STSS Modifieds in attendance were Hebert and Rascoe.

Next up for the STSS Cajun Region is a first-time appearance in Texas on Saturday, Aug. 21 at Big O Speedway in Ennis, Texas.

Caleb Dillard Becomes First STSS Cajun Region Repeat Winner by Inches Saturday at Chatham

CHATHAM, LA – The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Cajun Region’ has its first repeat winner: by the narrowest of margins.

In a photo finish to Saturday night’s 20-lap Day Motor Sports point series event at Chatham Speedway, Caleb Dillard edged Shane Hebert to become the first driver to win more than one event in the first-year STSS Cajun Region.

The Many, La., driver picked up the $1,075 payday by inches in a photo finish that was decided by the speedway’s transponder system.

Dillard launched off the outside pole to take the lead at the outset. Shane Hebert, who took the green in third position, worked to the outside to take the runner-up spot on the third tour of the quarter-mile oval.

Hebert spent the remainder of the main event chasing Dillard as the pair diced through lapped traffic.

After an extended nose-to-tail battle on a slick racing surface, Hebert made his move coming to the checkered flag.

Working the top groove, Hebert built momentum on Dillard, who was momentarily slowed behind another car. Hebert drew even with Dillard as the pair raced under the checkered flag.

Officials went to the transponder system to determine the winner and sent Dillard’s TCB Motorsports No. 18 to Victory Lane.

Dillard, the series point leader, previously won at Chatham on May 29.

Hebert, of Lafayette, La., placed second in the Brandon Hightower-fielded No. 9, followed by David Forbis of Bossier City, La., Richard Holt of McLeod, Texas and Tommy Rascoe of Converse, La.

Heat winners were Caleb Dillard and Hebert.

The series returns to action next Saturday, July 31 at Derek Perkins’ Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, La., for Race No. 6 of the Day Motor Sports point series.

Dillard Does It: Caleb Dillard Third STSS Cajun Region Winner Saturday at Chatham

CHATHAM, LA – Three-for-three.

On Saturday night at Chatham Speedway, Caleb Dillard became the third different winner in as many Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Cajun Region Modified events, picking up his first of the season.

Dillard earned $1,075 ($1,000 from the posted purse, $75 from APE Racing Engines) for his efforts in the 20-lap main at Jerry Hobson’s facility, taking the Sunoco checkered flag in Race No. 3 of the Day Motor Sports (Tyler, Texas) point series.

Dillard, of Robeline, La., had a pair of top-three finishes entering Saturday’s event but was looking for his first victory in his Tim Bates-fielded No. 18, a former Matt Sheppard-driven Bicknell mount.

This time, he got it done.

Dillard started third and worked beneath early leader David Forbis on the third tour of the wide and racy Chatham oval. Dillard would never turn over the lead once out front.

The battle for second, however, thrilled the crowd.

Forbis and Cody Robbins – the winner at Chatham in the April series opener – fought tooth-and-nail for the position side-by-side over the race’s second half.

Robbins took second on lap 17 but Forbis crossed to the inside and reclaimed the position.

Forbis, of Bossier City, La., narrowly bested Mansfield, La.’s Robbins to the line for second, with Robbins in third with Greg Dillard (Many, La.) and Tommy Rascoe (Converse, La.) completing the front five.

Heat winners were Greg Dillard and Rascoe.

Next up for the series is the first visit of 2021 to Sabine Motor Speedway in Many, La., on Friday, June 11. The month of June concludes at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., Saturday, June 26.
